The Caribbean island of Antigua is an island with its own personality and one that is a must visit for anyone looking to relax and take in stunning beaches and cuisine. A perfect holiday is assisted by the island famously having 365 beaches and warm sea breezes which allow year round holidays for holidaymakers from around the world. Annual rainfall is also only 45 inches which makes Antigua the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands whilst also having low humidity all year round.
Popular activities for holidaymakers include exploring the island's beaches by Mini Moke with the most popular areas centred around Dickenson and Runaway Bay on the north-western coast which is also home to the islands largest hotel complexes. For less developed Antigua and for the more adventurous traveller, it is worth taking a trip to Johnsons Point and Doigs Beach and after a bumpy ride you are rewarded for your perseverance by having unspoilt and quiet beaches for you to enjoy.
If exploring the island by car doesn't sound like your idea of a relaxing holiday, the other great way to see the island is by catamaran. A day out at sea gives you the perfect chance to spot dream homes and to take in some fantastic snorkelling.
For those looking for culture rather than a Caribbean tan, the town of English Harbour offers a great way to spend a day exploring its history. English Harbour was developed as the base for the British Navy during the 18th century and is the only Georgian dockyard in the world. Further things to explore at English Harbour include Clarence House which served as a residence for King William IV along with a selection of shops and cafes.
One of the great evening excursions is a trip to Shirley Heights located on the most southerly point of the island. The former military complex offers fantastic views over English Harbour and is the perfect place for a Sunday night barbeque party featuring a live steel band.
If none of the above sounds like your idea of a perfect holiday the island is lucky with its abundance of high quality hotels with excellent all inclusive packages to suit a variety of budgets. There can be few better things than listening to reggae with a nice cold Wadadli beer. Is there a cooler name for a beer than Wadadli? I don't think so and it has to be Antiguan.
